How long does the candle burn?

The burn time of a candle depends on its size, the type of wax, how the candle is made, where you use it (indoors or outdoors), and other burning conditions. We cannot make a statement about the exact burning hours.

My candle has cracks on the surface.

Cracks on the candle surface are not a problem at all. This can occur due to the tension difference between the wick, the pot, and the candle wax. Cracks can form during the candle’s drying process because of these tension differences. You can still burn the candle; the cracks will fill with wax and will disappear.

Should I trim the wick of my candle?

The wick should always be trimmed to 5 mm or less above the wax before being lit for the first time. The wick should never be too long; always trim it before lighting the candle.

My candle is loose in the ceramic pot.

It’s possible that the candle may become loose from the ceramic pot; this is not a problem. Simply reposition the candle in the pot and light it.

Can I leave the candle outside?

You can use candles outside, but it is recommended to bring them back inside after use. Outdoor conditions such as wind, rain, and humidity can damage the candle and affect its performance. Additionally, exposure to sunlight can cause the wax to soften or melt.

How should I store my candles?

Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

How can I reuse the ceramic pot once the candle is finished?

You can easily clean the pot and reuse it as a bowl, mug, or for other purposes. Follow the steps in the guide to learn how to do this. READ MORE HERE.

Can I leave a candle unattended?

No, never leave a burning candle unattended. It is important to always supervise burning candles.

Iris Floor Ceramics utilizes both commercial and custom studio glazes, with the latter personally crafted by Iris Floor herself.

Studio glazes

These glazes are formulated by Iris Floor Ceramics and, therefore, do not come with safety documentation.

• Frosty Plum (H-3) This glaze is free from any substances that pose safety hazards. This glaze should ideally be food-safe and dishwasher-safe.
• Peachy Cream (H-7) This glaze is free from any substances that pose safety hazards. This glaze should ideally be food-safe and dishwasher-safe.
• Pebble Brown (D-2) This glaze does contain substances that pose safety hazards. This glaze is dishwasher-safe, but it may not be food-safe for direct contact with food.
• Tigers Eye (TG-2) This glaze is free from any substances that pose safety hazards. This glaze should ideally be food-safe and dishwasher-safe.
• Matte White (SM-2) This glaze is free from any substances that pose safety hazards. This glaze should ideally be food-safe and dishwasher-safe.
• Velvet Beige (ES-10) This glaze is free from any substances that pose safety hazards. This glaze should ideally be food-safe and dishwasher-safe.
• Raku Transparent This glaze is free from any substances that pose safety hazards. This glaze should ideally be food-safe and dishwasher-safe. Keep in mind that pieces fired in a Raku kiln are not water-resistant, we recommend hand washing.
  

To clean a ceramic pot that has had a candle in it, follow these steps:

Remove candle wax

If there is still candle wax in the pot, try to remove it gently. You can use a spoon to scrape off the wax. Be careful not to damage the pot.

Warm water and dish soap

Fill the pot with warm water and add a few drops of dish soap. Let the pot soak to loosen the remaining candle wax and dirt.

Scrub the inside

Use a soft sponge or brush to gently scrub the inside of the pot. Make sure to remove all remnants of candle wax and dirt. If there are stubborn stains, you can make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it to the stains before continuing to scrub.

Rinse thoroughly

Rinse the pot thoroughly under running water to remove all soap residue.

Allow the pot to dry

Let the pot dry completely before using it as a dish or for a plant. This prevents any moisture from remaining that could cause mold when you fill the pot with soil.
