Large vase – Raku

 199,00

Raku is an ancient ceramic technique that originated in Japan, known for creating unique, organic shapes and glaze finishes through a dramatic process of temperature changes. In raku, the ceramic piece is first heated to a very high temperature in the kiln, up to nearly 1,000 degrees Celsius. The object is then quickly removed from the kiln and cooled in open air. This rapid temperature shift causes the glaze to crack, resulting in the characteristic crackle effects. Afterward, the piece is often placed in a smoke chamber, where it is exposed to the smoke of burning materials such as wood or newspaper, changing the color and patina of the clay and leaving a smoky effect on the surface. This process makes each piece unique, as the firing conditions and the interaction of smoke and glaze produce unpredictable, artistic effects.

This large vase is carefully crafted using the traditional raku technique, showcasing a beautiful interplay of colours and textures. It is unglazed in matte black, with subtle brown, salmon pink, and beige tones that harmoniously blend. The traditional crackle structure, created by the rapid cooling process, adds an extra dimension to the design, making the vase a unique work of art. The smoky and textured appearance of the surface reflects the power of the raku firing process, giving each vase its own story. This vase is perfect for showcasing flowers but can also be placed as a decorative object on its own to enhance any space. Keep in mind that if you want to put water in the vase, you need to place a (jam) jar in the vase. Due to the Raku firing technique, the vase itself is too porous to hold water.
